On the occasion of its 100th company anniversary, Herbert Hänchen GmbH donated 100 trees to the city of Oettingen,
the location of the company's second production plant since 1972. The joint planting campaign on 14 November 2025 symbolizes regional ties, sustainability, and a future-oriented approach.
Together with Mayor Thomas Heydecker, Andreas Schmutterer from the Donau-Ries Landscape Conservation Association, and City Architect Stefan Mayer, employees of the Hänchen plant in Oettingen planted eleven trees in the area – including a chestnut tree, solitary trees, and new apple trees to complement an existing, over-aged tree series. The goal was to close the existing gaps and thus ensure the preservation of the characteristic tree series in the long term.
Following this, the path led into the city forest near Erlbach, where Ms. Pia Mayer from the Office for Food, Agriculture, and Forestry had prepared another planting area. This area had been infested by the bark beetle last year, which caused damage again in the middle of this year. Therefore, it was decided to clear the area – knowing that Hänchen would support the reforestation.
Together with Hermann Schmidt, who is responsible for the maintenance of the city forest, the Hänchen team first received an exciting introduction and a precise demonstration on the correct planting technique for the saplings from Ms. Mayer. Afterwards, with great enthusiasm and joy, the employees planted numerous sweet chestnut trees and true service trees – tree species that have proven to be climate-stable future trees for the region.
With great dedication, team spirit, and enthusiasm, Hänchen employees threw themselves into the tree-planting campaign, which impressively puts the company’s sustainable anniversary vision into action.
Herbert Hänchen GmbH would like to extend its sincere thanks to the City of Oettingen, all participating institutions, and its dedicated colleagues for the excellent organization and active support of this successful event.
