DIN / ISO standards for hydraulic cylinders

There are numerous standards for hydraulic cylinders: The dimensional standards are intended to guarantee interchangeability between manufacturers. The following standards apply to round cylinders: DIN ISO 6020-1, DIN ISO 6022 and the tools for standard hydraulic cylinders such as rod ends fall under DIN ISO 8132.

The dimensional standard therefore describes the mounting dimensions of standard cylinders, but not the quality or material of the hydraulic cylinder.

Tip: Always compare standard dimensions between manufacturers, as the standard allows large tolerances.

FAQ - Standard cylinder DIN/ISO
General questions

What is the difference between an industrial hydraulic cylinder and a standard cylinder DIN/ISO?

An industrial hydraulic cylinder is based on manufacturer-specific optimized series and often offers more design flexibility. A standard cylinder DIN/ISO adheres to defined DIN or ISO mounting dimensions to ensure interchangeability across manufacturers.

A double-acting cylinder has two hydraulic ports for the cap side and the annular side. By pressurizing the cap side with hydraulic oil, the piston rod extends; if the annular side is pressurized, it retracts. This enables controlled force application and movement in both directions.

Hänchen hydraulic cylinders can optionally be equipped with integrated position transducers. This enables precise and continuous detection of the piston position for control and regulation tasks.
