Hydraulic cylinders with a cover have screws distributed around the circumference for mounting the cover in the cylinder tube.

Disassembling a hydraulic cylinder with a cover
General information
- To avoid a vacuum in the cylinder, Hänchen recommends opening the ports or venting screws of the cylinder for disassembly.
- Drain as much of the hydraulic fluid remaining in the cylinder as possible.
For cylinders with a position transducer, remove it before disassembling the cylinder. Maintenance work on the position transducer is described in section Maintenance of product with position transducer.
Disassembly of the cover
- Loosen and unscrew the mounting screws [2] crosswise from the head-side or cap-side cover [1 or 9].
- Screw two mounting screws evenly into the pull-out thread bores [6].
- Carefully pull the cover [1 or 9] over the piston rod.
- Pull the piston rod [7] out of the cylinder tube.

- Moisten the piston [8] and cylinder tube [3] with operating fluid or use compatible assembly grease.
- Position the piston rod [7] with the piston on the inside diameter of the cylinder tube.
- Shape the wear rings and insert them into the groove (if the piston is equipped with wear rings).
- Insert the piston rod into the cylinder tube and push it to the end stop.
- Insert flange seals [11] - for series 320 - between the covers and the cylinder tube.
- Carefully slide the cover [1 or 9] onto the piston rod.
- Tighten the mounting screws [2] crosswise. Observe tightening torques - see assembly and operating manual.
A special feature of hydraulic cylinders with multi-part covers, e.g. with Servofloat® or Servoseal®: The individual cover parts are assembled and disassembled one after the other, in the same way as cylinders with a one-piece cover.
