The piston rod material 42CrMo4V hardened and hard-chrome plated with the material number 1.7225 is suitable for heavy-duty applications and, due to its hardened surface layer, has particularly high wear resistance with a surface hardness of 56–64 HRC.
Due to the high strength of the material, very high forces can also be transmitted, for example for small port threads with large piston rods.
During hard-chrome plating, the chrome layer is applied in a particularly thick layer after pre-honing and then finish-honed. The layer thickness depends on the rod diameter and has a hardness of over 800 HV.
Hard-chrome plated piston rods can be used between -30 °C and 200 °C.
