Double-rod cylinders are cylinders with a continuous piston rod and therefore have two working areas of equal size for extending and retraction.

Due to the continuous rod, the overall length of such cylinders (also called double-acting cylinders) is approximately twice as long as that of cylinders with a single-sided piston rod.
